Cantata
147
When my
previous boss and good friend, Robert Lachance,
decided to retire, we organised a little surprise
happening for him, in which music was to be the
participation theme for everybody attending. As I
knew that Robert loves Bach's choral from Cantate
147, I made a special version of it, available
here. You may browse the Lilypond
source, see the resulting
score and hear the derived MIDI
file.
Don't be
surprised by the lyrics, if your MIDI tool happens
to show them. I've changed them all for the special
circumstance! ☺
As an
experiment, I physically connected the output of a
MIDI synthesiser (a Roland JV-1080) to the input
line of the sound card, while simultaneously using
the same sound card to generate MIDI events running
the synthesiser. A few simple ALSA commands, and
prompto it worked: I could grab the generated audio
data, which you may use it to compare and evaluate
your own MIDI file renderer. Here it is either as
an MP3
file, or a much bigger WAV
file.
